Wow did we get spring early this year! Here’s a quick update;
Adrian’s access is closed, the river is open to the point. Graceton Beech & Morris Point are the accesses on that end of the lake, 4 wheelers only. Zipple Bay had to close there access as well, we had to bid farewell to the Igloo which they slid off the ice last Saturday. Long Point is letting wheelers go too. Babbler’s remains open to all but I would suggest wheelers only. Springsteel has lifted the access charge at their resort.
There have been a couple reported trucks that dropped the wheels in a crack or hole earlier this week so use your head!
I guess I should mention that fishing has been really picking up as it usually does this time of year.

Thanks, Denny

Here’s the latest on the lake: as you know it’s been warm with rain most of this week so we’ve had a few temporary setbacks but all the above resorts are open! The ice has begun to float up & drain off the water. Rumors that Morris Point was closed is NOT true Babblers road was closed from Arnesons reef to 16 mile because a huge breaker developed, but Richard reopened yesterday all the way.
Fishing has picked up for the most part with reports of activity improving in the under 30’ mark. Very early morning & 4-5:00 in the p.m. have produced the best results.
The northerns along the south shore have started the spring pattern; there’s been a lot of tip up action the last week.
Back to the lake conditions, the tide has changed a little with pickups being the preferred mode with ATV’s next, you can drive most anywhere. Snowmobiles can still go but the slush tends to build up on the rails, as the surface water retreats sleds will probably get around better. There is plenty of ice out there & the resorts know best & wouldn’t allow access if it wasn’t safe.

Thanks & good luck fishin!!!!

Adrian’s: They are 13+ miles past Pine Island now. 33’ still is the best for all day again with those pains in the butt little guys still around, but there seems to be more nice walleye showing up just lately. They have numerous spots cleared for your shelters off the main roads & trucks can still get around off the road pretty good.

Morris Point: Not much has changed here 35’ for the most action. Morning & evening bites still pretty good in 15-20’. A lot of northern activity starting in that depth as well, so anyone wanting to do a little tip-up fishin the time has begun. They have notice some shiner minnow movement also, so as a result the big walleye’s are suspended 6 to 15’ off the bottom out in the 35’ areas.

Zippel Bay: Don’t want to be too redundant so this area pretty much follows the above reports. Last night a 29” walleye was caught in the Igloo! What a bonus sittin around visiting, watching the flat screen, havin a cocktail & pizza…..

Long Point: More & more better reports this week, according to the staff there all in all February has been a good month.

Babblers Road: Road is in good shape. Open to Gull Rock, Arneson’s Reef, & 16 Mile.

Springsteel: They touched up the roads yesterday out to the sand bar, DNR reef & out to the south tip. Trucks are still able to make it to Whiskey too.

Swift ditch: 218-442-7371: The road goes all the way to 5 mile Reef again.

Thanks & good luck fishin!!!!

Adrian’s: They have their houses out 9-10 miles past Pine Island. deep 32’+. Fishing has been day to day, still a lot of action with numerous small throw backs.

Morris Point: early a.m. & later p.m. 16-20’ has remained good for some nice fish. Out to 34’+ lots of action but you still need to sort through the small ones, probably the compromise is in about 30-31’ for all day & nice eaters. The roads are good & you can still drive pretty much anywhere with in reason. If your going to try that super deep depth & your flasher is zoomed in the bottom 6’ you might be missing the nice ones as they are suspended sometimes 6-10’ off the bottom.

Zippel Bay: deeper is better here 30’+. The shallow action in the morning & afternoon has slowed some. Deanna mentioned they have been seeing a lot more Perch caught just lately. Anyway if its slow for awhile at least here you can go to the igloo & have a pizza & a beer & rethink your strategy.

Long Point: Some spotty reports here too. I had a friend of mine fish one day & came up with nothing (that’s hard to admit) but anyway they spent the night & fished the same holes the next morning & 2 guys took home 2 limits by 11:00 and that’s why its called fishin & and not catchin.

Babblers Road: Road is in good shape. Open to Gull Rock, Arneson’s Reef, & 16 Mile. Reports here have been mixed.

Springsteel: The Springsteel Derby is this weekend!! There have been a lot of people wondering if the tourney will be open to the bay or fenced in. The decision to hold the derby fenced in was made Wednesday, so now you have it. Lots of prizes; a car, snowmobiles, ATV’s $100.00 cash drawings every hour. $1,000.00 1st place Walleye and lots more. Starts at noon.

Swift ditch: 218-442-7371 The road goes all the way to 5 mile Reef again & there’s room for everybody. The fishing as of late,,, well lets just say its been better, but you know its gonna turn on again, it would be a shame to miss that…

Thanks & good luck fishin!!!!

Adrian’s: They have their houses out 9-10 miles past Pine Island. deep 32’+. Fishing has been day to day, still a lot of action with numerous small throw backs. Trucks are able to drive off the roads without too much trouble, pulling a wheeled house would be the limiting factor.

Morris Point: Pretty good reports here with a morning & evening bite going on in about 15 – 20’, otherwise the all day bite is out 32’+ here too. Most are using jigging spoons with trebles & the head of the minnow. There’s more & more being caught suspended 6-8’ off the bottom, so make sure your fish finder battery is charged!!

Zippel Bay: Green flag here too, a little slow on Thursday, but that’s the first time this week. 30’ for all day but still a lot of small ones. The nicer fish have been showing up in the 23-25’ area. Sauger street & Bobber street will get you there. Coincidently the Igloo is pretty much in line with Bobber st. I know this cause I’m located just off bobber…

Long Point: Good roads from Twin Islands to Birch Beech. Fishing report has been good again, in about 27-30’. Way Points 28 & 30 on the Lake Master map (east of the resort by the green buoy) in that 27’ area have caught some nice size walleye.

Babblers Road: Open to Gull Rock, Arneson’s Reef, & 16 Mile. Reports here have been mixed, but the one thing is that if you hit the right day fishing anyone of these reefs this time of year the results can be rewarding.

Springsteel: Roads plowed to the sand bar & the DNR reef & South tip. Sounds like there is a road/trail to Whiskey Jack Flats that trucks have been using too. If you want that all day bite Whiskey is where you’ll have to go, otherwise the shallower spots have been doing best later in the day.

Swift ditch: 218-442-7371 The road goes all the way to 5 mile Reef again & there’s room for everybody. The fishing as of late,,, well lets just say its been better, but you know its gonna turn on again, it would be a shame to miss that…

Adrian’s: Open to trucks. They’ve been working hard all week moving houses that flooded after the rain, sleet, snow & wind. The main road is open & that’s pretty much were you’ll have to stay with the trucks, getting out to remote areas from here on out will be best with sleds & portables. Fishing in the deep 30’+ has been great.

Morris Point: Open to trucks. No report.

Zippel Bay: Open to trucks. Business as usual, fishing has been good here too although the 25’ depth seems to have slowed as of late, so stay deep 30’+ or 22’ and shallower.
Don’t forget to stop by the “Igloo” for some spirits & maybe a pizza!

Long Point: Open to trucks. By the weekend they should have everything opened again, getting off the road is going to be the challenge as the banks are getting taller & harder. Fishing has been good for the few that have been out.

Babblers Road: Richard is hoping to be reopened by Friday morning. He will have the info on his voice mail @ 218-442-6661.

Springsteel: Open to trucks, roads plowed to the sand bar & the DNR reef right now, if they don’t wreck anymore equipment they’ll have it open to the south tip Friday morning.

Swift ditch: 218-442-7371 no report on the road to five mile. As far as fishing goes there; it’s been very good to who have tried it.

It will be colder this weekend than the past 2 or 3 so Denny’s is knocking 20% off all hand & toe warmers!!!

Thanks & good luck fishin!!!!
Denny
